| The
intention of the group was to incorporate age/weight-structure,
minimum play rules and a child-centered philosophy into a program
that would help build character and self confidence. The goal was to encourage and inspire the players/cheerleaders to
continue with the sport through their teen years... and possibly
beyond.
Of
course, throughout that first year of planning there was talk of
someday finding a home for the program and building a
"Field of Dreams". Never did we
imagine such a perfect location, a perfect "HOME" for the Jaguars
program as the YMCA! |

| The Early Years.... |
| |
| The inaugural season
of the Jaguars program in '98 was difficult, but rewarding. While
our four sparsely-populated teams (100 football players,
67 cheerleaders) won no games, they grew and improved in so many ways.
The memory book is filled, not only with individual accomplishments−first
tackles, sacks and touchdowns but with TEAM achievements that far exceeded
anyone's expectations. |
|
 |
Since that first year
the Jaguar program has come a long way. With the merge of
programs with the YMCA of Cecil County in 2001 and thanks to their
generosity, the support of the Cecil County Department of Parks
and Recreation and many, many hours of volunteer labor, in
2002 we were able to put down roots and actually
build our "Field of Dreams". As we begin this 2005
season, rosters are filled with nearly 300 (twice as many) football players
and cheerleaders. Under strong new leadership and a highly
motivated family support system, the program has "renewed"
enthusiasm and promises to be competitive in every way. With such a bright and
encouraging outlook, we can be assured of continued Jaguar
Football and Cheerleading success!

| We wish to thank the dedicated people
who built this program from the ground up. Special thanks to
Mark Steimer for his endless patience and his wisdom... and heartfelt
THANKS to all who donated their time, energy, funds, mechanical
equipment, parts, labor, blood, sweat and tears towards building our "Field
of Dreams" including but not limited to: |
